This is a terrific compilation, but of the three, the piece I return to most frequently is The Runaway Bunny. It's the work's ambition, I think, that so impresses me, for though the familiar story is simple and dear, the music--both the composing and the performance--is thoroughly virtuosic. I recently paired The Runaway Bunny with Peter and the Wolf for a course I taught on cultural transformations, and damned if the Bunny didn't absolutely hold its own against the Wolf! No kidding: essential.

I heard the Runaway Bunny on the Jerry Lewis telethon in the US this year. It is based on a book I have loved for quite a long while. I am delighted that the talented Glen Roven has created such wonderful music that so well matches the text and mood of the book. While I am sure the rest of Paddington Bear's First Concert is excellent, Bunny is what makes the collection worthwhile for me, and I cannot wait to own this for myself. It will truly be a joy. I look forward to introducing the children to this wonderful piece.

What a recording! For those of us who are young at heart (or even have kids) this is a perfect pogramme. I heard Glen's new violin concerto on the web site, but this is fantastic. Over in the U.K the book of the Runaway Bunny isn't as well known as it is over in the U.S.A. I wish it were as this has left me wanting to read it.
I've known of Tubby the tuba for years, and grown up with Paddington; Stephen Fry is a genius at all he does; Brooke Shields does a terrific job of narrator in the Bunny, her enthusiasm for the book and the piece is infectious. The playing of both soloist and orchestra is superb and can only be bettered by seeing it 'live' in the concert hall.

This is for Glen Roven: Glen it's about time your work reached a wider public - such as this side the pond. Four emmy's is fantastic but I feel that your best is yet to come and that is certainly saying something.

For those reading this in the USA or the UK who haven't yet heard his score for the '5000 fingers of Dr T', be prepared. Extracts are on his web site. I've heard them. Listen to a genius at work.
I've given this recording five stars; I wish there were six. This will be with me, in my car, as I travel and if Ilm ever feeling down, this wlll lift me. It left me smiling. One question: what's next?
